pilgrim route

every year, over 2,000 people go on a 100 km pilgrimage path near guadalajara, mexico during holy week. municipalities along the route decided to give the pilgrims some service areas along this route, so the secreaty of turism of jalisco comissioned these projects to a group of both mexican and international architects. i have went through all the projects by all the brilliant architects and designer but there are two among all that really stood out for me. i really like how the end the pilgrim with a elegant and sleek circle. ithe form signify equality. great choice of shape and good job derek dellekamp+periférica

mies van der rohe installation by sanaa

japanese architects sanaa will create an installation at the mies van der rohe pavilion in barcelona, spain, this month. the project will consist of acrylic curtains arranged in a spiral within the pavilion, reflecting and distorting views through the structure. “we decided to make transparent curtains using acrylic material, since we didn’t want the installation to interfere in any way with the existing space of the barcelona pavilion,” says kazuyo sejima of sanaa. “the acrylic curtains rest lightly on the floor and adopt the form of a sinuous spiral. the curtain adapts smoothly to the pavilion’s inner space to create a new atmosphere. the view through the acrylic material is rather different from the original one, in that it generates gentle reflections that slightly distort the pavilion.”

In 1922, Madrid is wavering on the edge of change as traditional values are challenged by the dangerous new influences of Jazz, Freud and the avant-garde. Salvador Dali arrives at the university; 18 years old and determined to become a great artist. His bizarre blend of shyness and rampant exhibitionism attracts the attention of two of the university's social elite - Federico Garcia Lorca and Luis Bunel. Salvador is absorbed into their decadent group and for a time Salvador, Luis and Federico become a formidable trio, the most ultra-modern group in Madrid. However as time passes, Salvador feels and increasingly strong pull towards the charismatic Federico - who is himself oblivious of the attentions he is getting from his
beautiful writer friends, Margarita. Finaly, in the face of his friends' preoccupations - and Federico's growing renown as a poet - Luis sets off for Paris in search of his own artistic success. Federico and Salvador spend the holiday in the sea-side town of Cadaques. Both the idyllic surroundings and the warmth of the Dali family sweep Federico off his feet. Salvador and he draw closer, sharing their deepest beliefs, inspirations and secrets, convinced that they have found a kind of friendship undreamt of by others. It is more that a meeting of the minds; it is a fusion of souls. And then one night, in the phosphorescent water, it becomes something else...

notify my scouting troops all around asia to hunt them for me and guess what! i found there right here on our humble little red dot

anyway let me introduce my new found friend to you all :D

starting from the left: wang wearing raf simon, keep wearing martin margiela, know wearing jean paul gaultier, dollar wearing y3 and last but not least green wearing comme des garcons

i made up all the designer for the thrill of it hahaha

national art gallery, singapore

this might be old news but i just have to post it... i was thrilled when i saw the competition while surfing online for international architecture competition to participate!

i just couldnt believe myself that we are having our own national art gallery. it have been my dream to open up a small art gallery to sell modern alternative art. with national art gallery opening, it kinda shows that singapore art scene is improving and my dream to open might just be fulfiled!

anyway, the winning schemes belong to studio milou from french, simply love their presentation skill. great 3d sectional drawings. wish that i will have a chance to be involved in projects like that big scale.

singapore is finally slowly evolving for the better!

HURRAY~

notes on up and coming architect.... me!

i got inspiration from notes of becoming famous architect blog therefore i am starting my own list of notes to becoming up and coming architect!

to check on how far am i from being a famous architect!

1. work for a famous architect

- i did get the chance to work with a few of singapore top architects such as scda architects, forum architects.

who should i work for next? maybe something more international time to head back to melbourne

2. pay attention to your glasses

- been paying a lot of attention to my glasses since secondary... people usually refer me as the guy with the giant specs! its a good start haha

3. do diagrams like BIG

- i always get reference from BIG website for their diagrams idea and applied them in my uni work as well as for exact work now. however, mine is still no where near them. but at least i am trying

4. make the most of your business card

-here are a few tips from Salanitro (owner of San Francisco-based, Oh Boy, A Design Company) for making the most of your business cards

Hand them to people when you meet them for the first time.

Give them to people every time you meet them, not just the first time.

Include one in everything you send out

Carry them everywhere you go. networking is the most effective marketing activity

5. pay attention to your clothes

- relationship between fashion and architecture is not a particularly oblique one. both are based on structure, shape and prettying up basic necessities - clothes and shelter. the relationship between fashion and architects is less discussed. yet even a glance at your garden-variety modern architect proves this is a group who are just as style-conscious as fashion designers.

like my idol sejima, she's always clad in comme des garcons

nior: first solo show

just something to share, i happen to be in qv during my previous vacation back to melbourne and i came across this gallery called no vacancy. they are showcasing work by melbourne artist nior. his style combines the natural world with a surreal twist. using recyled timber as his canvad with innocent creatures with detailed fur, feathers and textures.

i can't resist myself and got myself one of his original called "for all i care" - images below. it was within my budget and i was loving his for all i care attitude!

all the way nior and thanks for the chat that day!
